Kitchen rugs inspiration

One look I really like in the kitchen is having a rug on the floor. In London I had a very ugly kitchen floor and covering was not an option but a need. I remember I had a red small rug that gave a much needed pop of colour and later on I added a black and white floral patterned one that I really liked. I think it adds a bit of texture and dimension. In a large kitchen it can also be a focal point but using it for example under a central island. 
My personal choice is something big and bold that can be a statement piece, preferably with lots of colours and probably something a bit tribal or a bit antique.

Recipe: Broccoflower fritters

This is pure goodness: green fritters that are chock full with good things for you. I made these with broccoflower because it is what I had in hand at home but you can make them with goodie good broccoli or with cauliflower and I know it will work similarly well with courgettes (zucchinis!). In the second batch my mom added some crumbled feta cheese which makes it more scrumptious!
It's pretty easy, the only bit that is a bit annoying is grating the broccoli and forming the patties but it's so healthy it's well worth trying these. 

PS: these look a bit burnt but fret not, they were delicious all together I just forgot them half a minute too long! 

(for 2 as with leftovers as a side or quick first course/add on)

1 broccoli/broccoflower (I removed the stems for ease)
1/2 chopped onion or 1 large spring onion
1-2 garlic cloves crushed 
1 tsp lemon zest
1 egg
7-8 tbsp ground almonds
50gr grated parmesan
fresh chopped parsley
sea salt and black pepper
Feta cheese (optional)


Grate the broccoli. You can use the coarse tooth of your grater or do like me and use your blender (I know!) or even better your food processor if you have one. Place is a large bowl. 

Beat the egg and add it to the bowl where you have your grated broccoli. Add the other ingredients and mix well with a wooden spoon or with your hands. Add some feta cheese if you want. If the mixture is too runny add some more ground almond. 

Shape the mix into small patties with your hands. 

In a large pan heat 1 tbsp of olive oil over medium heat. Place your patties well separated between them, you don't want them to get stuck between them. Be careful because they might fall apart! Fry each side for 3-4 minutes.

Weekend Wear

Hello lovelies! Today I'm channeling I'm wearing another one of my new winter staples, the hoodie, mixed up with little kitten heels to soften it a little bit and make it a tad more feminine. I love that the hoodie has become a staple these last couple of seasons. When I was younger I wore it a lot, like most of you I guess, it's easy to throw on and go but I love that now they are a bit more subtle, feminine with little details like typography or buttons are zippers or nice little cuffs details. I will wear mine with heels like here for a more feminine look and with boots and trainers when the weather is a bit colder for a more casual outfit.

Weekend Wear

Today I'm wearing my own version of the outfit I showed you on Tuesday, white oversized shirt, black denim and in my case my trusted Ash booties. I added a bit of a bold lip and the softest ever Liebeskind handbag from Anthropologie (Anthro also has this other Liebeskind bag that is as gorgeous, maybe even a bit prettier!)

Actually, I wanted to share this outfit mainly because of the bag, it is the perfect black leather understated fabulous handbag that pretty much goes with anything and can be worn at all times. The long strap can be added if needed making it a great bag to run errands, to travel around or anything that requires your two hands free. 

The other day I opened a long forgotten box, the one that said "home clothes" aka sweats, old hoodies etc etc. In it I found my very very old oversized white shirt that i actually thought I had given away to charity. Alas, it's not the case, and the shirt that I bought about 4-5 years ago, that I first wore non stop with pretty much anything and then wore non stop at home with leggings is now my once again "new" closet staple! I love when a piece of clothing can be so versatile and remains a classic.

The bed side bulb

One of the "trends" I want to adopt in my next bedroom is the "one-single-bulb-pendant". I have seen it in a couple of bedrooms hanging in the middle of the room and really like it but what I would like to do is use it as a bed side light. Obviously I'm no trendsetter and it has been done (and dusted?) by many very skilfully and tastefully. Here are a few images to inspire you if you are looking to do the same. I love the idea of the light cord hanging from the ceiling but I also find it cool when it is hanged from a hook or the likes.

The White shirt

I'm all over this look this season, I love the oversized shirt look and the white and crisp feel is elegant but can be casual at the same time depending of how it is worn.

I love wearing mine with jeans and flat ballet pumps or heels, like I did here, but I think paired with black trousers makes for a very powerful look especially paired with bold red lips and nails and gold jewels!

The Art of Eating Well and Recipe: Baked courgette chips

I think I first heard of the Hemsley sisters on These gorgeous sisters write about healthy eating and have published a book recently called The Art of Eating Well. I want to try and embrace eating better, not that I eat badly, but I want to try and introduce ingredients I wouldn't have thought about using before, like ground almond, flax seed and many other ingredients that unless you are very much into healthy eating one might not very well know what to do with them. 

The book is just as beautiful as they are, the recipes are well explained and look are not too complicated, I tend to find that healthy recipes are tedious to make and ingredients difficult to find but this is not the case here. The book is divided in categories, starting with breakfast recipes, soups, salads, meat and fish and finishing with scrumptious healthy deserts.

On Sunday for lunch I wanted to try something to go with the main course we were eating and decided to make the baked courgette fries, oh my, how delicious were they! I eat courgette because "I have to" not because I love them but this recipe is a game changer, these chips are baked so no frying is involved and are covered in ground almond, grated parmesan and herbs which give them a scrumptious taste. 
Try them, you won't regret it!

(serves 2 as a side dish)

2 large courgettes
50 gr ground almond
30 gr grated parmesan
1/2 tsp dried oregano
pinch of cayenne pepper (I added black pepper instead but I think the cayenne pepper would be a better choice)
1 egg
sea salt


Preheat oven to 220ยบ. 
Wash and dry your courgettes. Slice the ends and discard. Halve them and slice each half lengthways. Do it again until you have pieces a bit larger than your average french fries. 
Mix the ground almond, parmesan cheese, herbs and pepper and salt. Beat the egg well. 
Dip each courgette into the egg and then into the almond mix evenly.
Place each courgette in a single layer on a baking sheet and bak for 13-18 minutes, just be careful not to burn them. 
Serve hot with an extra pinch of sea salt if needed.

Which mixer?

My quest for a stand alone mixer has been a long one, not a quest per se as there are only a few choices to pick from, it's more a "need" quest. Aka, do I really need it? Can I justify it? It's obviously not a cheap purchase and if you want a good one the price spirals. I know you must all be thinking about the KitchenAid, we all do, but lately I have been considering the Kenwood Kmix stand. I have read a few reviews and blog posts that compare both and usually, technically, the Kenwood is supposed to be better. Now I know the Kitchen Aid has loyal fans out there but the same happens for the the Kenwood. So if you own either I would definitely appreciate your feedback.

Autumn inspiration

It's still not even trench coat time here in Barcelona, it seems the warmer weather has settled well here and I have had yet no need to take out the heavier layers of clothing. My favorite weather is in between seasons, early autumn and mid-late spring, I love being able to wear a top and a cardigan or a light coat. I love layering, trench coats, winter coats that are not designed for the incredible weather in very cold climates, booties and big chunky knits and scarfs. 

A bit of inspiration today for the weather to be!
