A home in Les Palisades: rent it for your holiday!

Today I wanted to show you a truly beautiful private home that can be rented as a vacation place in Les Palisades in LA. I was perusing, day dreaming actually, let's call it by what it really is, and I stumbled on this fantastic website with tons of gorgeous home and this one stood out. Why? I was drawn by its earthiness, the exposed natural beams, the lovely contrast between the sweet caramel woods and the darker coloured wooden floors.

The bedrooms are serene and comfortable, in earthy tones and beautifully decorated. I love that white tufted headboard!!

and look at that exterior, wouldn't it be lovely to enjoy a bbq out here?

Happy weekend lovelies, you will find me dreaming of an LA holiday!

An ode to Mario Vignelli

Massimo Vignelli, the master of design died yesterday and as his work has been great influence to the modern design world, especially graphic world, I thought it would be a good idea to share some of his most recognisable and important work. The design of the NYC subway map for one, with it's multi coloured maze. I also love both the perpetual calendar in black and white, and the larger wall calendar, both classics of mid-century modern design.

Vignelli was big on branding and creating logos that we all know but maybe did not know that were created by this italian long based and active in the US. The American Airlines  or the Bloomingdale's logos for example, and the green classic that is the Benetton logo! Vignelli was a mastermind of product and graphic design and corporate identity. Did you know that the use of the Helvetica font in his novel was the main reason of the widespread use in the US.

Mario Vignelli was also known by his ideas and phrases to live by. My fave?

If you do it Right, it will last Forever.

If you want to own a piece of design history then you should check out this Etsy sale for this rare Pirelli 1961 poster, I absolutely LOVE it! I so wish it was within my budget, incredibly jealous of whoever gets it!

Recipe: Homemade Pizza

THIS Pizza recipe is to die for, that's all I have to say today, make it and you can thank me later, well thank my mom, cause actually she makes it!

For the dough
250gr pizza flour (if you can't find it a.p. flour works as well)
1 tbsp olive oil
1/2 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 dry yeast
1 tsp oregano
1/2 cup lukewarm water

For the tomato sauce
5 medium-large tomatos
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp pepper
1 tsp oregano
1 tbsp olive oil

This is completely up to you but this is what I use
1 packet fresh mozzarella
200 gr sliced bacon (or pancetta, or ham, or anything you fancy really!)
grated gouda cheese (or any cheese that melts nicely)

First prepare your tomato sauce so it can cool down. Grate your tomatoes with a large grater. Place in a sauce pan over low heat together with the salt, pepper, sugar, oregano and olive and let it simmer for about 20 minutes. Take out of the heat and reserve.

Start preparing your dough. In a large bowl mix with a fork the lukewarm water with the yeast, sugar, salt, olive oil, oregano. Slowly add the flour in and mix/kneed well until you get a soft dough. Place in a clean bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel and let it rest for about 30 minutes, you should see your dough grown in this time.

Preheat your oven to 180ºC.

When the dough is ready place it on a work surface and kneed it softly. I have a pizza pan (this one!) but you can use baking sheet (right?). Shape the dough in the pan but pressing it with your hands softly. Smear the tomato sauce over the top of the pizza dough base. Next up is the mozzarela, I usually cut it in slices but you can tear it if you like it best, then place the bacon and on top the grated cheese. YUM! Scatter a bit of extra oregano (and while I haven't tried it I'm sure it would be delicious if you scattered a bit of chilli too). Season with salt and pepper. Place in the pre heated oven on until crisp and golden (about 25-30 minutes but keep and eye you don't want to burn it!)

Weekend Wear

Without a doubt this will become THE summer jacket. While many of you might think that it's probably beach hot here in Barcelona, it is not the case this year. It's still coldish and a light jacket is a must. I loved the blue version Mango has (get it too for real or get this red one, it's THAT perfect) I went with this red one mainly because it's a bit less ornate and has a zip. I also finally got myself a black small crossbody bag and I predict I'm going to wear it a lot.

Mango, the little ones and us

Last season I blogged about the Mango kids collection. I loved that mom and daughter, niece, goddaughter etc etc can potentially wear the same. Obviously not everyday but I find it sweet and cute. I especially love their shoots. And this first jacket (here is the link for the kids version, and here the link for women's one), which I actually bought. Yesterday on Facebook I asked about this other jacket and I got a general positive reaction, I tried it in store and really liked it but the red version (not the same but similar) stole my heart (it comes with a zip which I find more comfortable too). Anyway, back to the kids collection, Mango nailed it again this season, I can totally see my goddaughter wearing any of these!

And some of the pieces I love for us!

Biarritz house by Isabel Lopez Quesada

Yesterday on one of my favorite blogs (Casilda se casa, THE best wedding blog in Spain!) I read about Isabel Lopez Quesada, a spanish interior designer, and her work. I had a quick look at her portfolio and was immediately smitten by her classic yet incredibly comfortable and approachable style. I especially loved this home she worked on in Biarritz, in the South of France. It has an incredible rustic vibe but remains very elegant. I absolutely adore the master bedroom with the all white bedding and the small pops of colours in the accessories. This might well be one of my dream homes! And oh my, look at that house per se, how incredibly gorgeous is it?

Recipe: Healthy Apple Cake

On Saturday while I was half watching a movie, half browsing the Internet I came across a Greek recipe for a healthy version of the classic apple cake. I checked we had all the ingredients and got my hands dirty baking. It's extremely easy, quite healthy (butter is substituted by olive oil and there are no eggs involved). To make it even better you could even use brown flour. Perfect for breakfast!

3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup olive oil
1/2 cup walnuts
2 small apples, grated
1 tbsp cinnamon
1 1/2 cups a.p. flour
2 1/2 tbsp baking powder
1/2 cup orange juice

Preheat oven to 170ºC. Lightly coat your coat tin with olive oil.
Grate the apples and juice the orange. Set aside.
In a bowl mix together the flour, cinnamon and baking powder.
In a second large bowl whisk with a handheld mixer the sugar with the olive oil (or using a free standing mixer or by hand with a whisker). Add the flour mix and the orange juice alternatively and keep mixing.  Add the apples and the walnuts and mix with a spoon lightly until all is well mixed.
Pour the mixture into your tin and bake for 45 minutes (or until a toothpick can be inserted and removed all dry). My cake came out gooey and very moist which I love, but I know it' not everyone's cup of tea so if you want it less gooey bake for further 10 minutes (but be careful you don't want to burn it!). Sprinkle with dusting sugar!

Weekend Wear & Sunday Outfit

This is a sort of 2 in 1 post. Because sometimes it is fun to remember past times and take some silly pics of myself and share them here together with the layout of the outfit as always. This outfit couldn't be simpler but is one I love to bits, those jeans are part of my body and a simple linen tee is what I will most likely wear most of the summer. You will see that I added a couple of accessories in the outfit breakdown, a clutch and a bold necklace, I could have added a pair of high heels to make this outfit go from day to night easily. I'm also wearing my fun (albeit a bit silly but I love anyway) sunglasses from Zara. I saw them on The London Chatter and had to have them (I love her style)
