Book: The Perfectly Imperfect Home

Oh my, I've had this book on m night table for the longest time ever, but I haven't had a chance to have a proper read and blog about it until now. This is a super pretty book, a properly pretty book, The Perfectly Imperfect Home by the Editor of Domino, Deborah Needleman, looks like a small labour of love.

As you would expect the book comes with an array of great decorating advice and tips about how to decorate a la Domino. The style, of course, reminds me a lot of Rita Konig's, you will see many illustrations which at least to me remind me a lot of her apartment, and I love it! All the illustrations are by Virginia Johnson and might very well be my fave part of the book, the visual impact is phenomenal. If you love Needleman's style I would highly recommend this book, it has some great ideas! It would also make a lovely gift.

Enjoy the weekend lovelies! I'm off to watch The Dark Knight tonight, and I CANT WAIT!

Ideal Closet

This outfit is similar to what i have been leaving these last days. It's not hot enough for summer clothes, neither cold enough for big chunky sweaters and coats (even though lots of people walk in coats in London! way too much if you ask me!) so this light weight sweater is perfect! I also bought this necklace from Zara and I have been wearing it all the time, it works with most basic colours and the strassy bits add a bit of glam to a simple outfit. How do you jazz up your outfits?

1. Necklace, Zara£19.99 | 2. Earrings: Kabiri£51 | Sweater: T by Alexander Wang£375 | 4. Bag: See by Chloe, $595 | Loafers: Charles Philip Shangai£113| Jeans: Miss Selfridge, $68

Wedding Wednesday: Jenny Packham 2013

I'm a big fan of Jenny Packham's gorgeous collections, year after year she impresses us with breathtaking creations that would make any bride to be swoon. Her cuts are flattering, full of textures and lovely materials. While she has some dresses that would please the more princess/traditional bride, her style is more vintage meets modern if you get what I mean. Sleek cuts, long silouhetes that are reminiscent of other times, maybe the 1920's with her beaded numbers. Are you a fan like me?

Meet the Superhumans

The London Paralympics are officially starting tomorrow with the Inauguration Ceremony and it's definitely an exciting event. Channel 4, the broadcaster of these Games has created a beautiful ad with a powerful soundtrack by Public Enemy and staring some of the great GB athletes. If you haven't watched it already I think you should, and definitely tune in and watch these great Games, because they are truly admirable SUPERHUMANS.

TV floorplans

Raise your hand if you didn't love Carrie's SATC apartment. No, not the series, the NY apartment, anyone? That one bedroom apartment, with that quaint little window and spectacular walk in is something we girls have probably dreamt about at some point. And this artist, Iñaki Aliste Lizarralde has taken it to the next kind of level, a floorplan drawing! I saw it yesterday on Pinterest, and had to share. Before I started blogging, and before I started reading blogs, and way way before Pinterest I stalked the HBO site where they had plenty of Carrie's apartment photos, I loved looking at every little detail and dreaming some day I would have my own space to decorate like that. Big thank you to this talented artist for taking me back to those days.
He has also painted the Friends apartments, who didn't love these adjacent fun and all loving homes? Look how detailed the drawing is, even Joey and Chanlder's arm chairs are depicted meticulously.

Ideal Closet

This super simple outfit is if I'm allowed to say it myself, super cute. I lived in my chambray shirt all summer and I find it to be a very versatile piece that should me part of everyone's wardrobe, I especially love it paired with a lovely little skirt. Mackenzie blogged about this little elephant necklace and I loved it so much I had to share. They bring luck so this is going to be my lucky idea outfit!

Wedding Wednesday: A model weds

I love fun and colourful weddings but I think I love more elegant and sophisticated bashes, like this english affair featured on Vogue. The lovely Brit model, Jacquetta Wheeler with her beau James Allsopp in the middle of the British countryside.

The bride wore a custom made dress designed by her friend Alice Temperley. It's delicate, soft and makes her look even prettier than she is. Her veil, an incredibly labour of love and craftsmanship was pinned with an antique diamond coronet borrowed to her by her aunt, pretty amazing!

The location is pure Englishness, a 1616 built castle that belongs to the model's family is the dream location for such bash. The flowers created by the fabulous London florist Scarlet and Violet are just as elegant and delicate as the whole affair.  And look at that cake, if it was as good as it looks I'm sure it was delicious! I love the tiny roses.

And this is my favourite picture, the couple dancing a la Fred and Ginger. LOVE!

Beautiful Paleokastritsa

Coming back from a lovely holiday is tough, so to grab the moment a bit longer here is another Corfu post. Some of you asked me to take lots of pictures, I have to be honest, I didn't. I took both my dslr and point and shoot cameras, and never took the big one out. The small one's battery died at some point so that was pretty much it. Luckily I had some battery left when we went to Paleokastritsa, a beautiful area of Corfu where this stunning rocky beach is.

I'm not a fan of rocks, they scare me, and I didn't jump into the water (I know, a shame!) but the views were breathtaking. People walking around beautifully, laying on the rocks sunbathing and sipping refreshing drinks, others climbing on the rocks and jumping impressively onto the prettiest waters. What can I say, a unique place!

The Pixie Project

Hi Diary of Lovely friends!  Blair here, from Nashville, Tennessee.  So excited to be sharing Helena's space today and to introduce you to an exciting project I've recently launched.
It's called The Pixie Project
and you can help!  In the capital city of Ethiopia 1 of 9 women is part of the sex industry.  3 of 4 of the women in that lifestyle have AIDS, which for many there, is a death sentence.

I call this the Before Picture.  I'm ready to chop all that hair off!  And not just chop it off, but chop it off to rescue 3 women from prostitution.  To take them off the streets and give them a second chance at life.

In partnership with The Mocha Club, The Pixie Project's goal was to raise $1,200.  Thats enough to rehabilitate 3 women for a year which includes intensive counseling, job training, medical attention, a safe place to stay, and care for their children as well.  All that is asked of these women is a commitment to stay off the street.   It is a second chance at life.  *If I reach my goal, I'll go get a pixie -- something I've always been afraid to do.  Helping women in this way is the motivation I need!

Here's the update -- As of this past Saturday, I have officially reached my goal.  I'm getting a pixie!  As in Carey Mulligan, Emma Watson pixie.  And I am pumped!  But what I a more pumped about is the out pouring of love from women around the globe in support of this great cause.  I've reached my goal and have raised enough for 3 women -- but let's not stop!!  Let's go for four... 5, 6... don't stop!  There are so many more women needing a second chance at life.  Please join me in donating to the Pixie Project buy using the button below.  We can do something wonderful together!!

{All donations are tax deductible and you will receive a receipt for your records}

You can follow along with the Pixie Project on my blog
! I'll continue seeking to raise money and awareness through the month of August as well as keep you update on my new look!

Lindsay's favourite holiday

Hi everyone, I'm Lindsay from The Pursuit of Syle and I'm excited to be taking a little virtual vacation with you while Helena is away! I love to travel and have visited some amazing places, but when I think of what my 'most fabulous' vacation would be, I immediately think of Capri. I haven't been yet, but I've daydreamed about it so often I feel like I have the entire trip planned!
It goes without saying that the scenery in Capri is stunning and I imagine myself spending quite a bit of time lounging on the beach taking it all in.

Naturally, I'd channel Jackie O who was a frequent visitor of the island. I've been dying for a pair of handmade Canfora sandals which she was often photographed wearing.

Since this is my 'most fabulous' vacation, I'd make the J.K Place my home base. I can't imagine a more luxurious place to rest my head. The interiors of the hotel are almost as inspiring as Capri's landscape.

Thanks for accompanying me on my dream vacation and thanks to Helena for inviting me to share it with you. Fingers crossed I get to make it a reality some day soon!

Ashley's Favourite Holiday

Hello! My name is Ashley from the lifestyle blog, a {little} dash of ash! I am here today sharing one of my favorite holidays while Helena is off enjoying one for herself!  I am a big fan of "vacations" and I try to take a big one every single year! Some of my favorite trips include {Puerto Vallarta} with some of my girlfriends in March of 2011, {London} last September and most definitely the Dominican Republic with my boyfriend this past Spring!

I wanted to share this special holiday with you because I would absolutely recommend this vacation spot and hotel to anyone - it was a perfect getaway!  I have been to a few different islands in the Caribbean, but this one was by far the prettiest!  Also, the hotel, Barceló Bávaro Palace Deluxe, was awesome!  It is located right on Barceló Beach, one of National Geographic's top 10 beaches in the world.  I kind of agree with them... how beautiful is this?!

My favorite beach pictures are from the morning we woke up extra early (to snag our favorite cabana) and watch the sunrise!

Not only were the beach fabulous, so were the pools!  We hung out at 3 different pools during our trip, the adult only pool (which was our favorite), the main pool with a swim up pool bar and the infinity pool at the spa.  I think my favorite thing about the pool was laying in the the pool beds!  They were actually super comfortable and just what you need on a hot day!  Loved.

The spa was AMAZING!  We had an entire afternoon there.  First we had some foot ritual that they like to do in the Dominican, then we had a couples massage and then spent the afternoon in the sauna, steam rooms, and our own private infinity pool for the day!

The food... the hotel is an all inclusive hotel and had your typical "ok" food buffets, however, I loved this hotel because on top of the buffets, you could choose to dine at 10 additional all inclusive restaurants.  They had every kind of restaurant you could imagine, Steak House, Mexican, Italian and our favorite, Japanese!  We went to the Japanese restaurant our last night there and sat with a group of people around a hibachi grill - it was so fun!  Oh, and our new favorite drink is this Brazilian lime drink called caipirinhas!! We also loved drinking fresh coconut water from coconuts that they cut down from the palm trees daily!

I forgot to take photos of the rooms - but they were awesome too!  We had a junior deluxe suite that was modern with a beach twist.  Our favorite part of our room, the jacuzzi on our balcony with  a beach view! :)  Our "second room" was this cabana that we lived in during the day!  :)

I think the photos speak for themselves on how beautiful this place is!  We absolutely loved it and are already talking about another trip back! But... not next year, because next year we will be heading to Paris for our Holiday... one of my dreams come true! :)  What is your favorite Holiday?

Hop on over to a {little} dash of ash for daily inspiration on fashion, home decor and photography!
Thank you for having me, Helena! xxoo.

Rachel's favourite holiday

Hi everyone! It's Rachel here from Little Bits of Lovely + I'm thrilled to be here while Helena is off having a fabulous time on her holiday!

Without a doubt my dream holiday destination is Paris. There is so much beauty to soak up in this city, so let's take a look at how a few magical days in Paris could be spent...

A day exploring the Louvre...

A stroll through the exquisite Luxembourg Gardens...

Indulging in many a sweet treat at a French Patisserie...

Wandering the ever so charming Parisian streets...

An unforgettable evening the Moulin Rogue....

The perfect holiday outfit to wear would need to be comfortable + stylish -
it is Paris after all!
