Design Democracy Awards Nomination

I'm here but I'm not here really. This is a scheduled post I write before leaving to Greece (which means that now I'm suffering the heat in Athens!).
I have been nominated by someone very nice to the nominate me to the mydeco Design Democracy Blog Awards, thank you, it's really exciting news for this little blog of mine. And because this is about Design Democracy here I am to share what Design Democracy means to me.
In a nutshell it means what some years ago might have seemed impossible, to enjoy of a beautiful place to call home - in a budget. To come back from work and be happy to be back because one actually enjoys being at home, because this home is what you made of it.
To be inspired by beautiful and talented people who have made their houses a home, like many fellow bloggers...

and many more...
Design Democracy is not to be restricted by a budget but by imagination. Design Democracy is the possibility that one has to create beautiful pieces for the home...
Like this gorgeous headboard that has my heart racing...

or this gorgeous and useful coarkboard

Design Democracy is when all and each of us has the chance to express what a beautiful home is, though all the incredible blogs and through some amazing online magazines, yes I'm talking about you Lonny and Rue

Design Democracy is each of us, and the love we have for design and for the chance to recreate and love it every minute of it.
Design Democracy is what each of us makes of it.
Is all the love we put into our houses to make them feel our homes, our homes to enjoy with our loved ones.
Design Democracy is you, you and yes you too!

If you feel like voting go ahead, and will be for ever and ever grateful! You can do so HERE.

Guest Post: Inspired Design **Summer Must Haves**

Hi Everyone! It's Debby from Inspired Design.
Today I will be sharing my Summer must haves with
you while Helena is basking in the sun of the Greek
isles, (I am hoping she's taking lots of pictures so we
can all live vicariously through her adventures)!
A lightweight jacket is a must have for me, seeing as
I freeze the minute I step foot in an air conditioned
I am also loving embellished tanks and t-shirts
this season.

Add a pair of dressy shorts and cute wedges and

you are good to go!
Wedges J Crew

There is nothing like finding a great beach read. I am
anxiously awaiting the new Elin Hilderbrand novel that
will hit book stores on July 6th.
I love the over sized basic beach tote by J Crew for
lugging beach supplies.

My go to scent when the temperature rises is
Vanilla Coconut by Lavanila... it's summer in a bottle.
The perfect accessory to all those cute sandals and
flip flops is a pedicure in a summery color.
My favorite color? OPI in My Chihuahua Bites

I've found a way to keep my eye make up in place on
those steamy summer nights. I use Benefit's eye
primer in, Stay Don't Stray, and I've ditched my pencil
eyeliner for Stila's Smudge pots. Apply with a brush
and no need for touch ups!
What are your summer must haves?

Guest Post: Everything LEB **Finds under $50**

Hello A Diary of Lovely readers, Lindsay here from Everything LEB.  Since Helena is off on a fabulous vacation in Greece somewhere I’ll be keeping you entertained today with my favorite Summer Must Haves.  Just a few of my favorite items that I basically live in during the hot summer months here in Boston.

1.White T-Shirts-  I have a ton of these in my closet and wear them all the time.  I have everything from an expensive Theory T-shirt to those Hanes V-neck undershirts you can get at Target for $10 for a pack of 4.  White always looks nice on tanned skin and goes with just about anything  in my closet.
2.Khaki Shorts-  Paired  with a white shirt, I have the beginning of my summer go-to outfit that I just about live in.  My favorite are the J.Crew Chino shorts () , they come in all different lengths and are always in style.
3. Statement Necklaces-  a bright chunky necklace like these three  just add the finishing touch to a plain old khaki shorts and white t-shirt.
4.Cross-body bag-  I love the shape and color of this Marc by Marc Jacobs bag. It goes with black or brown, gold or silver and you really can’t go wrong with it.  It doesn’t fit within the $50 budget (sorry about that)  but it’s a bag that you will use over and over again. While I don’t have this exact bag (they don’t make the one I have anymore) you better believe I will be buying this one when my current bag kicks the bucket.
5. Jack Rogers- Classic sandals that are comfortable and have been around forever.  Hey, anything that Jackie O wore you really can’t go wrong with. Most importantly they go with a white t-shirt and khaki shorts like a dream J  (Oops, these aren't in the $50 budget either. But I swear they will last more then two summers and if you divide the $96 price by 2 then you have less then $50 per summer)
6. Orange toenail polish- Since its sandal season I always make sure my tootsies  are polished with bright color.  Nothing makes me happier then seeing a fresh pedicure when I look down at my feet. I love the colors A Good Man-darin Is Hard to Find and On the Same Paige.

I hope you all enjoyed my Summer Must Haves and thank you again to Helena for inviting me to guest post on her amazing blog!  I hope you are having a great vacation and I cant wait to hear all about it when you get home!

A designer portfolio: David Lawrence

David Lawrence has talent, a classic meets city sophistication vibe. His work is flawless, the colors are in great symphony with the patterns and it has a very homey feeling.

This living room is probably one of my favorites, an incredible modular sofa, plush pillows, ottomans used a coffee tables, great use of space. Love it!

My Stuff Series **Bright.Bazaar**

I'm so excited to have Will from Bright.Bazaar today here at the My Stuff. Hello "men inspiration". I love all my ladies but it's nice to have a man taking over -for once. Will is British and his blog is one of the fullest eye candy PLUS he is extremely sweet (is it ok to say that? yeah!!)
If you haven't had a chance to meet him and his blog head ober and check it out, you can thank me later.

Favorite Discovery: The High Line in New York City. It’s a park on a disused railway line that is raised up above street level, which means you get a really great view. Plus, it’s like an oasis of calm, while the city thunders on below. My first port of call whenever I am in town!
Favorite Place in the World: Oooo this is tough! If it were a city then I’d have to say Paris, but I’ve never been to San Fransisco and I think I’d love it there, too. Conversely, I also love the British countryside – the rolling hills and sounds of birdsong are perfect stress relievers.
Style Icons: I don’t have a set one, but I like a preppy, relaxed-smart kinda look.
Favorite Designer: Without a doubt, Jonathan Adler. everything and anything he works on I love.
Favorite Movie: A Good Year.

Jeans: A pair of slim fitters from Hennies or Zara usually do the job!
Boxers or Briefs? Boxer trunks.
Watch: My D&G ‘Medicine Man’ watch.
T-shirt: A vintage black and white tee from a small, indepedent shop on Kings Road.
Suit: I don’t have to wear a suit very often, but I do like this one that I bought in Zara.
Shoes: My Reiss trainers.
Wallet: Battered, brown leather.

Favorite Gadget: Sky+
Favorite Art: Photography, especially of city-based architecture.
Bedding: Bright Orange linen from Habitat.
Stationery: Linda and Harriet’s work is to-die-for.
Coffee table books: David Oliver, Paint and Paper; Jonathan Adler, My Guide To Anti-Depressive Living; Todd Selby, The Selby Is In Your Place; Thomas O’Brien, American Modern; Teruyoshi Hayashida, Take Ivy.
Flowers: Orange and Pink Roses.

Perfume: Men’s Clinque Happy – Fresh, upbeat and affordable.
Moisturizer: No.7 for Men.
Razor: Gillete Fusion.
Shampoo: John Freida.
Hair Products: Kevin Murphy.

Thank you so much Will!

Africa calling

The World Cup in South Africa is now over but Africa is in full swing. Their fashion is blooming with incredibly bold gorgeous patterns, young designers who are taking their traditions and making treasures. Sophisticated silhouettes, bold prints, gorgeous traditional fabrics, eye catchers in one word. Jewel by Lisa (and the diffusion line JbyLisa) is a great example of thisLisa Folawiyo is the talent behind the brand and has already debuted her collection in NY and Paris. Lisa was the first to use the nigerian ankara fabric for luxurious collection and if you ask me, she did a gorgeous job.

The beautiful JbyLisa diffusion collection can be found at the fabulous My Asho
