At the beginning of the week I saw this gorgeous desk area at Christina's blog Down and Out Chic and it triggered a long pain I've had for a very long while now: having a small home office, very small, I'm not high maintenance, ha! We live in a one bedroom apartment in London, and I can't complain, it's big enough for central London but unfortunately there is NO real space.
This is THE desk, the Jay desk + Hutch
I love the combination with the Ghost chair so I started thinking that I WANTED to recreate the look, but where?
I thought about the bedroom, remove the nightstand and put a small desk and a chair... would it be awkward? Will the space become tiny winy? maybe yeah...
Here's the inspiration behind the idea, how do you feel about desk/nightstand?

Then I thought and thought, there's a space between the closet and the wallet, useless space really but it's 65cm (25.6inches) yes nooooot much, which means that I need a desk not wider than that... and there isn't much of that in the market. Here are the 2 ideas, WHAT DO YOU THINK? opinions please, Ill thank you for ever :)
Hello Darlin! I definitely vote next to bed. I think it's perfectly practical, especially in a small space. Better than cramming in a too small desk. And just look how gorgeous the inspiration photos are! Only question - does the room get good daylight? Because if not, that might be annoying working in a space with no natural daylight. Can't wait to see what you decide!

Oh I love it Helena! Do the Ghost chair with the dark desk. And loving the pillow too! Good luck honey!
ReplyDeleteOk I desperately need that ghost chair and desk in my new apt ... i am moving in June!! :)
ReplyDeleteI love the lucite chair. It makes a small space less cramped and more open.
ReplyDeleteOh darling we have the same problem. I can't wait until we get a 2 bed. I will make the 2nd bedroom a study.

I don't actually have a desk OR a nightstand in my room; I use a waist-high, wide dresser as a nightstand a pretty much a general place to toss anything. However, I am positively in love with the look that you're trying to recreate and am convinced that if you get a little creative the desk could totally work.

These are so great and I prefer them to nightstands.

I think with your space definitely next to the bed. Love that desk!
ReplyDeleteoh helena..you know i just LOVE these desks....office spaces are my FAVE!!!!
ReplyDeletehave a beautiful weekend dollface. xoxo
Oh, I think it's a fabulous idea, LOVE desks beside the bed! xx
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of a desk beside the bed. And a ghost chair will create the illusion of more space. I myself have a vintage school desk {the one with the flip open desk lid} next to my bed & I switch back & forth between a not too cumbersome chair & stool {I have to find that perfect comfortable chair}. Good luck with your choice & have fun with it!

I am loving all of these photos with the desk next to the bed! So much more interesting than the expected nightstand. Maybe there isn't a lot of space but it sounds like you are planning on utilizing the space you do have to get the maximum benefit out of it! If you go for it make sure you show us!! xo
ReplyDeleteThe last bedroom is sooo nice! I love the ghost chair & been wanting one for awhile. So my vote for the ghost chair.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely the desk beside the bed...I love that look and I think it will really work for you in your apartment..especially if space is very limited. If you can get your hands on a ghost chair..that is going to make it all come together...as the transparency of it will give that little nook of your room an open feel.
ReplyDeleteCant wait to see what you end up doing...I too am in the same dilemma....but I need to find a place where I can put a darn filing cabinet aswell...another challenge! :) x
It's a lovely idea to have a practical table next to your bed.You should haunt in all the vintage shops...

I love the desk/nightstand idea! I get ideas all the time in the middle of the night and I'd love to have something right next to me!

The last inspiration photo next to the bed is amazing. I think if you can make that work, without the desk hugging the bed, it will look nice and uncluttered.
ReplyDeleteYour inspiration photos are beautiful and show how the writing desk and chair work so well next to the bed. Go for it. Can't wait to see what you decide.
ReplyDeleteIt's a great idea! And the beauty of the ghost chair is that it's visually light - almost invisible! - so it won't look cluttered next to the bed.
ReplyDeleteUse as a bedside table. It's tiny and I think it would fit right in. Perfect to place books and magazines to read before drifting off to sleep. Have a happy, happy weekend, sweetie!;-)
I've been planning on using a very small desk as a bedside table in my daughter's bedroom. That last picture is my inspiration picture too!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteDarling you are the lucky winner of my giveaway!!! Congrats!!
Please, send me all your info via mail :-)

I'm with you! Small office spaces are hard to find...good ones anyway! Good luck! xo
ReplyDeleteI should think of something like that for my place! I adore this little table and the chair is adorable!
ReplyDeleteKisses and have a great Friday:)
I think next to the bed is a great idea!
ReplyDeleteHelena, that is such a great idea! It is an excellent use of space and I LOVE the desk and chair you have chosen. It will work beautifully, plus it is a convenient place to be:)
ReplyDeleteThe first desk is incredible. I love the juxtaposition created by the lucite chair! Great post...
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by Pretty Lovely, it means so much!
xx,
Samantha
Love the first pic, desk, contents and chair are all so perfect! I could not live with such a small desk unfortunately, just not practical enough for me!
ReplyDeleteThat top desk is darling! So quaint and girly!
ReplyDeleteI love the desk and chair, but I have always heard it's a bad idea to put a tv or a desk or things in your room that take away from romance/sleep.
ReplyDeleteLove it! So practical - I had a desk/chair next to the bed in one of my apts. before and I loved having it. I like the idea of a white or clear desk too - visually looking like it doesn't take p as much space than a dark one.

ohh i LOVE the first desk! I just got a ghost chair myself and I really love it. For being transparent, it adds a lot to a space.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend
xx

What an amazing idea. I've never thought about that. Our bedroom is pretty small, so I thought there was no room for a desk. Thanks lady!
ReplyDeleteIf you feel comfortable using the space, do it! I love the combination but whether or not you have the space, if you find yourself sitting there blogging and chatting with us, totally worth it!
ReplyDeleteThat desk would look fabulous with my mac!...If it would fit on it???
ReplyDeleteHmmm, that's a toughie... I like next to the bed. I think it would look super chic.
ReplyDeleteyes next to the bed and a ghost hair would be perfect with having a small space. I did this same thing in my daughters small bedroom.
ReplyDeleteI like this setup a lot, I would definitely go with removing one nightstand and placing the desk there. You can place the lamp on the side closer to the bed and you can leave some space free on that side for you to use it as a nightstand for a book etc. and the rest... well, desk stuff of course :-)
ReplyDeleteIt'd be better to fit it elsewhere, since having a "work table" beside the bed can be very unproductive, especially if your bed is temptingly comfortable. But if it can't be placed elsewhere, then just make sure to keep it at a distance and angle opposite the bed.
ReplyDeleteWow this desktop is awesome, please post more info about it!
