Give me Baukjen!

If money was no object at all I would have found my go-to brand, it's no designer or super expensive but it is good quality and that has a price no doubt. Anyhow, I'm talking about Baukjen which I knew of for some time but I feel like I have re-discovered. They have beautiful fashionable and timeless pieces that can help create a beautifully curated capsule wardrobe. I love all the leather pieces they have, I have fallen in love with the figure hugging green leather skirt that screams POWER dressing from miles away! Paired with one of their beautiful flowy shirts and you have the most gorgeous outfit for both the office and the night out.

Now please someone get me one of each!

Oh! and wouldn't some of these be perfect pieces for your Thanksgiving celebrations? To those who celebrate across the pond and here, enjoy and let's be all thankful for all the good in our lives, sometimes we really need to stop and appreciate what we have, seems like a given but it is always so difficult.

Recipe: Plum Torte

Now now dear friends this is one cake you may have already done because I read it's a very popular one, and if you haven't you should definitely try it, especially if you can come across delicious plums. This is an original New York Times recipe by Marian Burros, first published in 1982. From 1982 to 1989 it was published every September until they decided it was enough. This angered readers who demanded the recipe was published again and again. Thankfully we now have the internet and easy access to this delicious and super super easy recipe.

Ingredients

3/4 cup sugar
1/2 unsalted butter (at room temperature)
1 cup a.p. sifted flour
1 tsp baking powder
2 eggs
pinch of salt
6-8 plums halved and unpitted

1 tsp sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
lemon juice

Instructions

Preheat oven to 180º
Sift all your dry ingredients and mix in a bowl.
In a bowl cream the butter and sugar. Add the flour mix and eggs one at a time. Beat well.
Butter your spring form, I used a 8"one. Spoon the batter inside and place your plum halves skin up covering all your batter.
Mix the sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle the plums, you can add a bit of lemon juice depending on how sweet you like your cakes. I didn't add any juice.
Bake in the pre heated oven for approximately 50 to 60 minutes.
Remove and cool on a rack.

Weekend Wear

One of the perks of leaving in the Mediterranean is the gorgeous weather. It's a pretty obvious statement but it's one we many times take by granted and it's a shame. When in a large part of the world temperatures are plummeting here it was a mild and lovely weekend, perfect, albeit warmer than normal. Which is why it allowed me to take off my coat, wear an ultra light dow jacket (not worn for the pics) and walk around the neighbourhood on Sunday morning.

Ideal Closet

When I make these posts I always think of myself and what I would like to wear, it's like an infinite, bottomless and priceless imaginary closet. The pieces I chose also go hand in hand with my mood and what I dream about at that specific moment. Today I'm thinking of a fabulous day outfit, very cosy with lots of layers but also a bit of sparkle (look at those shoes!!). I think this is a great outfit to wear at a family dinner, American friends, what about something like this for the upcoming Thanksgiving celebration?

Christmas gifting: Uncommon Goods

Uncommon Goods is an online shop where you can find something really cool for pretty much anyone. Maybe your mom is looking for some tea smelling handmade soaps? Or your co-worker just had a baby? Or maybe a wine decanter for your dad? No matter what or for who, you can look for it here. Especially now, with Christmas fast approaching you can browse by occasions (I love online shops that do that!) and find the perfect Christmas gift or a little stocking filler
I, personally, am pretty easy to shop for, just check out my blog or Pinterest boards and one can easily find something to please me, or in any case just get me something cool and interesting from Uncommon Goods (wink wink!).

Recipe: Roasted spicy chickpeas

This is the perfect snack recipe. You really only need to get your hands on some boiled chickpeas and some spices and you are pretty much ready to go. I but the boiled chickpeas ready off the local market but you can buy them tinned or even boil them yourself if you are so inclined.
You will notice from my photos that I didn't remove those pesky skins they have and you can really tell, the pictures would have looked million times better without the skins but to me they taste just as good, I did however read that without their skin they will taste even better so it's up to you, I just didn't have that kind of patience.

Ingredients

500 gr boiled chickpeas
salt
freshly ground pepper
paprika/red pepper
2 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

Preheat oven to 175º. Line a baking tray with baking paper.
Mix the salt and peppers well. Rinse and dry your chickpeas, if you want to peel them, now it's the moment.
Place your chickpeas in a large bowl and coat them with the olive oil, use your hands, get dirty, it's better! Add the salt mix and rub them well so it goes everywhere.
Place your chickpeas on the tray on a single layer.
Bake for about 20 minutes until they are slightly golden. Be careful not too char them.
Remove and let them cool before you place them in an air tight container and snack when you feel you want to eat a bag of greasy bad bad bad potato chips.

If you like chickpeas you should also try the soup recipe I shared last year.

Weekend Wear

I was so happy to find this camel coat when it was still quite warm in Barcelona. It has everything I wanted, I love the "housecoat" belted shape, the length is perfect and it is soft, comfortable yet I feel modern and elegant when I wear it.
The camel coat is definitely a big trend this winter but I think it has always been there to stay, it goes pretty much with everything, for me it works even better than a black coat! There are many stunning options in the market, low and high, here are a few of my own picks (mine is from Mango!).

Minted Christmas!

It is that time of the year once again, that time when a lot of people keep thinking baffled how Christmas is just around the corner, AGAIN! Well it is and for many it is time to pick their Christmas greetings and get them ready and done.
In Europe there isn't much of a tradition of sending Christmas Greetings, in London I might have received a few from American friends or others but I never received a large amount and I never really got to send any massively, maybe a few here and there, and that I'm definitely a bit sad about. There is something special about snail mail, and especially holiday cards.

Which ones I love? Lots, I love the traditional ones, but also find super cute the photo cards. Very very american I know, definitely not something you see around here but is there anything cuter than a happy family, a lovely pair of smiling kids or a couple wishing you happy holidays? I had seen Minted photo cards in the past and I think I have even received them from someone and I love all the fancy, fun, whimsical designs they provide. If I was the type who sent Holiday cards my pick would be one of the below.

There are plenty of designs to pick from, tons of colour schemes, different formats and tons of papers (including Double thick that I bet is super luxurious!). If you are not much into the photo card, there are other gorgeous designs too.

Working it: Pilates

I recently started going to pilates classes once a week. I picked a 1h30' classes of pilates matt and I was lucky to find a lovely instructor that I really enjoy. My problem with spots and working out is that I NEVER EVER liked the activity per se, I love the idea of working out, being healthy and fit and so on but I have never been able to either enjoy and consequently stick to it. I think this is changing, I actually look forward to my weekly class and I'm planning to double it from next semester!
Check out below Marilyn with her  pretty fab and super body working it away and stretching like there is no tomorrow in what is now called "vintage pilates" aka pilates mat, I love this picture!

and while obviously, very little is required for these classes, being comfy and feeling pretty is always a must so here's my shopping edit in case you are looking for some nice outfits to wear to your next pilates class! I want that Nike cape so badly!!

Mango (UK and US) and Oysho also have some really pretty and affordable sport gear

Recipe: Detox Juice

I have found my new favourite juice, this yellow concoction is a super fresh boost for your body and one that has a tangy delicious taste. Only three super good-for-you ingredients and you can juice it or blend it. If you blend it you will have to add a glass of water to be able to mix well the ingredients. Now let's talk a bit about the ingredients (Disclaimer: I'm no specialist and just note a few of the benefits of each of these that I find interesting).

Apples potentially protect you from several diseases like Parkinson's or Alzheimer. They are a rich source of fibre so they are good for your tummy too and your digestive system helping at the same time reduce cholesterol. They are pretty amazing too if you are not feeling all that well, you know what I'm talking about right? When your tummy says "no more" and you are either suffering from constipation or diarrhea. Rich in fibre remember?

Limes are sour, but definitely worth including them in your diet and not only in cocktails! Limes have amazing anti cancer properties (it's the flavonoids in them that fight it and also help reduce the growth of those pesky cancer cells!). They are also very good for your digestive system (see the trend here?), limes can help digest a heavy meal ad also help if we suffer from heavy bloating.

Ginger can help ease the menstruation pain (who knew!?), it also can be taken to help reduce migraines and it might also reduce blood pressure (hypertension). It is also taken to reduce nauseas and vomiting and contains very potent anti-inflammatory  compounds called gingerols which for those suffering of arthritis for example might help them reduce their pain.

Now now, this juice is all together a delicious boost of energy so no matter what you care in life, if it's the taste or the benefits of each individual ingredients, trust me and give it a try!

Ingredients
(makes 1 serving)

2 green apples
1 peeled lime
1 small piece of french ginger (about 1/2 inch)
1 tsp of stevia (if you don't like your juice to citrusy)

Instructions

Wash the apples well and core them, cut them in 4. Peel the lime and cut them in half. Cut the piece of ginger and peel it. Place all your ingredients in your juicer and let the magic happen!
Drink fresh and enjoy.

Weekend Wear

Finally a proper fall outfit! I'm wearing my go-to colours in winter, black, grey a bit of blue and a bit of taupe. I'm a creature of habits what can I say. I'm also sharing for the first time two of my latests purchases from Mango, both bought taken advantage of their 30% discount they had a couple of weeks ago (who doesn't love a good old discount, right?!). The blue/black coatigan and the maranesque boots are already big staple in my autumn closet and I know they will be worn non stop this winter.
