The weekend before last, we boarded the Flying Dolphin, an hydrofoil boat from the Pireus port and headed to Hydra to spend the weekend.
Hydra is a lovely tiny little island a couple of hours from Athens just across the shores of the Peloponese. There are no real roads per se and cars and any other type of transports are strictly forbidden, only rubbish trucks are allowed! You can either walk, take a little donkey or a water taxi.
There is only one town, the little harbour where there are lined coffee places, galleries, restaurants and little shops. Hydra is the perfect little getaway to finish off the #bestsummerver!
We stayed at the most lovely hotel ever, the Hydra Hotel, up a steep stone street. The lovely Katerina, our hotel host, showed us the rooms and the amazing view from the room 202, wow! Ours was a nice bedroom with a lovely private patio where we enjoyed the most magnificent breakfast ever, I can't recommend this hotel enough!
Hydra is very well known for the mules and ponies that take tourists around the island and help locals and not carry heavy suitcases and others.
Hydra is not super well know for its beaches but there are a few bays and nice stretches that can be reached either by a boat taxi or little boats. At the ver end of the harbour there is also a combination of cliffs with bars and restaurants and at the bottom you can swim in lovely clear waters.
I highly recommend walking a bit around the island, especially the little hikes to see the beautiful view. Going to Hydra is the cherry on the top of my #bestsummerever !
