In my Kitchen: Christina from Full House

The incredible fantastic, the one and only Christina from Full House is sharing her beautiful kitchen and her cooking secrets with all of us today. I'm very very excited, because all the glimpses Christina has shared of her home have made me go all nuts, so having her kitchen today here is to me a privilege. Plus Christina is my hero, mom to 5 little kids, incredibly beautiful and stylish and a sweetness.


Eat in or out: Both.  It is still a bit of a novelty at this time in life to get away from home so I very much welcome any opportunity to go out to eat.
Take away or restaurant:  It is hard to turn away an opportunity to be waited on, so I am going with restaurant.  I do have to say though that there certainly is a time and a place for good take-out..like when you don't want to cook or get ready. 
I cook for ... My husband and five darling little children.

Healthy food: Lentils, spinach and quinoa.
Indulgence:  Quality dark chocolate, european style whole milk yogurt, nuts, olives, crab & lobster, 
Weekend Meal:  Thin crust pizza.  I had to carry on the tradition of my parents..pizza at least once a weekend.
Date Dinner:  Something that includes a flavorful piece of seafood.  I would never turn down crab, lobster or sea bass....now if only it wasn't so darn pricey.  If it were up to my husband it would include sushi.
Quick fix:  Salmon and steamed veggies.  Can't forget that good old macaroni & cheese out of a box. 
My kitchen is:  open, cozy and a place where I spend the majority of my time at home.  Also next on the list for a little facelift. 
Favorite gadget(s):  Simple steam basket & my vita-mix (fancy blender).
In the kitchen, I couldn't live without:  Garbage disposal or dishawasher..because I did for a year one time and it sucked but then again it made me appreciate it that much more when we had those things again.
My cooking bible:  epicurious.com, 101 cookbooks, or the Vance family cookbook (I had to throw that one in my Grandma;-)



My must ingredients:  garlic, lemon, honey, butter, sea salt and LOVE (the secret ingredient, ha)
Spicy or Mild:  Bring on the spice.


My recipe: Turkey Meatballs with homemade sauce
Ingredients
1 small onion, grated
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 large egg
1/4 cup dried bread crumbs
3 tablespoons ketchup
1/4 cup chopped fresh Italian parsley leaves
1/4 cup grated Parmesan
1/4 cup grated Pecorino Romano
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 pound ground dark turkey meat
3 tablespoons olive oil
26 ounces Simple Tomato Sauce, recipe follows, or store-bought marinara sauce


Directions

Add the onion, garlic, egg, bread crumbs, ketchup, parsley, Parmesan, Pecorino, salt and pepper to a large bowl and blend. Mix in the turkey. Shape the turkey mixture into 1 1/4-inch-diameter meatballs. Place on a large plate or baking sheet.
Heat the oil in a heavy large frying pan over medium-high heat. Add the meatballs and saute until browned on all sides, about 5 minutes. Turn off heat. Transfer the meatballs to a plate. Pour off any excess oil. Add the marinara sauce, about 3 cups. Return all the meatballs to the pan. Turn the heat to medium-low and simmeruntil the sauce thickens slightly and the flavors blend, 15 to 20 minutes. Season the sauce, to taste, with salt and pepper.
Transfer the meatball mixture to a serving bowl. Serve with toothpicks.

Simple Tomato Sauce:
1/2 cup extra-virgin olive oil
1 small onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, chopped
1 stalk celery, chopped
1 carrot, chopped
Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper
2 (32-ounce) cans crushed tomatoes
4 to 6 basil leaves
2 dried bay leaves
4 tablespoons unsalted butter, optional
In a large casserole pot, heat oil over medium high heat. Add onion and garlic and saute until soft and translucent, about 2 minutes. Add celery and carrots and season with salt and pepper. Saute until all the vegetables are soft, about 5 minutes. Add tomatoes, basil, and bay leaves and simmer covered on low heat for 1 hour or until thick. Remove bay leaves and check for seasoning. If sauce still tastes acidic, add unsalted butter, 1 tablespoon at a time to round out the flavors.
Add half the tomato sauce into the bowl of a food processor. Process until smooth. Continue with remaining tomato sauce.
If not using all the sauce, allow it to cool completely and pour 1 to 2 cup portions into freezer plastic bags. This will freeze up to 6 months.

Sunday Outfit

Most of us are still enjoying the long weekend, happy Memorial Day and happy bank holiday, US and UK lovelies - and happy Monday to the rest! This extra day changes completely my week and I couldn't be happier!
This maxi dress is from a store in Barcelona called NKN, if you ever visit the city you should definitely check it out, they have some nice stuff. I love maxi dresses and skirts for the warmer months, especially if they come in pretty feminine prints. I usually wear them with flat sandals but I thought it would be fun to pair it with these silver vintage peep toes.

Judy Kaufmann

On Monday, while in Barcelona, I had the absolute pleasure to meet Judy Kaufmann. Judy is a Chilean illustrator who has been living in Barcelona for 7 years now. You might have seen her work around the blogosphere. Her Woody Allen and Twins prints have made the rounds and I have always loved them! Blogging is a great platform and has allowed me to meet some great talented people, and Judy is definitely one of those. She is sweet, fun and incredibly talented. Make sure you check out her work, you will love it!

Ideal closet

It has been sunny but still quite chilly these days and I have been layering a lot. Everybody says it but it is indeed the only solution! This outfit would make me happy, I'm a big fuchsia fan, but in small(ish) doses and this fantastic box cut jacket fits all my needs. And as you know I love flats, and I'm not cheating on my beloved French Sole but these Bolch are pretty cool too!

Loyal

I'm not loyal to many products, I get bored and tend to change opinion about things. Take shampoos for example, for the life of me I can't stay true to one brand. But I realised that I have been years long loyal to four specific products, and these one I love them and defend them fiercely, you could even think I work for them, but don't ;)


1.Don't try to sell me any other skincare product, I have found my saviour, wile I don't believe in miracles and I don't think any cream does miracles, Creme de la Mer is my perfect moisturiser. 
2. Since I first used the Shu Uemura cleansing oil I have tried to sell it to all my friends, you gotta have it ladies!
3. And, yes you know the drill, best flats ever. Before starting wearing French Sole, I had plasters all over my feet, with these beauties, never. The black India specifically are my best friends. 
4. BEST make up product. No kidding!

In my Kitchen: Beth from Hello Splendor

I knew Beth would send me some cool pics for the series, and I'm not disappointed, her kitchen is functional, fun and really pretty, exactly my type of space.If you don't know eth already, you can find her at Hello, Splendor and her professional work at  Pulp Design Studios. The Pepperchelamis recipes sounds yUUUmy!

Eat in or out: Both! We cook most nights and treat ourselves with a meal out a couple of nights a week. 
Take away or restaurant: Restaurant for sure! If you're gonna pay for it, you might as well have service & an great atmosphere. 
I cook for: My husband & 17 month-old son. Although, my husband does most of the cooking! I'm more of a weekend cook. 

Healthy food: Granola, yogurt, and blueberries with a drizzle of honey
Indulgence: Lobster risotto
Weekend Meal: French onion soup
Date Dinner: Rack of lamb with a mint reduction sauce
Quick fix: "Pickin's!" It's what we call antipasto. Caprese salad, sliced cheese, olives, cured meats, and fruit. We eat it for dinner at least once a week.


My kitchen is: Too small, but full of love & personality
Favorite gadget(s): My kitchenAid mixer. 
In the kitchen, I couldn't leave without: The corkscrew!  
My cooking bible: Claire Robinson's 5 Ingredient Fix 


My must ingredients: butter, mozzarella, prosciutto, and a heavy hand of salt.
Spicy or Mild: Mild! I'm really a wimp when it comes to spice... and it doesn't help my ego when I'm married to an Italian and my business partner is Mexican.

My recipe: 
This is a highly coveted appetizer recipe that gets requested at every cocktail party & family gathering. Trust me! It's simple and a little strange, but just try it.

Pepperchelamis
1/2 lb genoa salami (thinly sliced, but not paper thin)
8 oz tub of regular cream cheese
Jar of pre-sliced pepperocinis 
Toothpicks

Smear a slice of salami with cream cheese. Top with pepperocinis in a line down the center of the slice of salami. Roll up tightly and secure with a toothpick. Continue until all salami slices are used. Simple! It's most time efficient when done in an assembly style making at least 5 at once.

Sunday Outfit

The weekend has come and gone, but I can't complain. I've had a great time in Barcelona and enjoyed being spoiled at home! I'm wearing what probably is my most loved color combination this season, royal blue and green, very peacock like, don't you think? I did a bit of digging (if you follow me on Twitter you might have seen a couple of my finds) now that I'm here at home and found some vintage beauties in my closet. Just like these beautiful peep toes shoes I'm wearing here. There was a time I was a real vintage junkie and now I have some really nice gems, well I'm happy I did! It was also  my little goddaughter 5th birthday and loved spending time with her. Happy Birthday Princess!!

Zara May's lookbook

Bold colors and perfect neutrals is what Zara seems to be doing best these days. Have you seen this month's lookbook and have you been to the stores, I have seen so many beautiful pieces I would like! I tried a fuchsia blazer today, the one with the gold buttons, and really really like it, but I think the royal blue will be more wearable, what do you reckon?

Ideal closet

 I really like the idea of skinny trousers and a slouchy sweater. I borrowed part of this look from Olivia Palermo's last weeks outfit, you know the one with the zara bag. And could not resist all the gold accesories ans the fab Hermes bright orange pop! A girl should always be ready and have a pair of comfy shoes in her fab bag. What do you think?

Velvet

Apologies if you have already seen this post, it was meant to go live last week when Blogger went all crazy!

If velvet love could be measured in the blogosphere it would come with a very high score, because we all love a bit of velvet, right? or a lot! I have been highly obsessed with velvet sofas, and my goal is to get either one in my next house. Maybe a love seat, like this one fuchsia from Urban Outfitters or maybe this royal blue sofa from Graham & Green. Anyhow, while I decide here are some of my favourite inspiration.
